Volunteers Needed

To maintain an important and interesting service. Coastwatch Mundesley is part of the National Coastwatch Institution, a Charity offering 365 days lookout service to shipping, beach and the public, we’re the ‘Eyes & Ears’ of the coast.
We operate from the former Coastguard Tower on Mundesley seafront; a normal duty watch is two hours once a week. Training and support is given to become part of our vital and friendly team. Interested – then ring Richard (01263) 579 354 or Ray 721 016.

One Response to Volunteers Needed

  1. Colin Back says:

    Hello Richard/Ray,

I am contacting you to ask for advice/guidance please.

I am currently a serving Police Officer in Kent Police (Ex pat Great Yarmouth) I am due to leave the Police in July and I will be coming back to Great Yarmouth.

To occupy my time I am going to run the East of England Division of ‘Forces For Good’ a charity ( awaiting registration number) that serves to assist ex-forces personnel who have fallen upon hard times in whatever form.

    Forces for Good.
Programmes offer support and guidance to ex-servicemen and women who are experiencing difficulties in adjusting to a new life as a civilian. They are particularly relevant for ex-servicemen and women who are experiencing homelessness, housing problems, unemployment , substance misuse problems, relationship difficulties, mental health problems including PTSD ( post-traumatic stress disorder).
In our experience, Veterans are notoriously bad at asking for help and may view survival ‘on the streets’ or when experiencing acute adversity as a continuation of the field exercises or combat missions that they took part in whilst on active service. Many demonstrate a highly developed sense of pride and a stubborn determination not to become viewed as a burden on society. It’s therefore not surprising that civilian orientated support services find it difficult to engage and sustain meaningful interventions with ex-forces personnel.

The scheme has had great success in the North East of England as well as Mansfield and North Wales.

You may have seen ‘Forgotten Heroes’ on the BBC Panorama documentary which generated a tremendous response from statutory bodies, NHS. councils and the like around the Mansfield area culminating in the Mansfield Charter.

I am hoping to replicate something in the East of England starting with Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

I am currently part of a Parliamentary Working group and I hope to be able to use connections at the House of Commons to assist etc.

I will be looking for placements on Volunteer projects in the near future to boost the individuals self esteem etc and would like to link in with your organisation if possible?

I look forward to hearing from you soon

    Kind Regards
    Colin Back 07816 347323
